About Birmingham
The Birmingham metropolitan area now has a population of about 920,000, and is growing ever more diverse economically, socially, and culturally.  With Mercedes and Honda now running automotive manufacturing plants to the west and east of Birmingham, and the emergence of UAB in biotechnology and healthcare, Birmingham has moved away from the dependence on the steel industry that once was the foundation for its economy.  At the same time, there has been an influx of Hispanic and Asian immigrants, and the area is more multicultural than before.
This has implications for the Church in that there are more residents of the area than before who may not have the same religious background as long-time residents.  Indeed, due to this and the increasing secularization of American society in general, we have a greater mission field here at home than we have ever had.  May the Lord of the harvest use us to win souls to HIm.
